ALROSA says March diamond sales fall by 56.5% on mo to $153 mln

MOSCOW, Apr 10 (PRIME) -- Russia’s ALROSA sales fell by 56.5% on the month to U.S. $152.8 million in March, the company said in a statement on Friday.

"March was conspicuous for a slump of demand for rough and polished diamond products on all key markets,” Depury CEO Yevgeny Agureyev said, as cited in the statement.

“The situation of uncertainty seen in February was replaced with strong restrictions and even discontinuation of trade as the borders closed and quarantine measures were introduced all over the world. This, undoubtedly, affected all segments of the diamond pipeline in the most negative way."

Sales of rough diamonds amounted to $148.7 million and of polished diamonds to $4.1 million.
